Maharana Pratap Government Degree College, Nanakmatta, affiliated to Kumaun University, Nainital came into existence on 14 October, 2021, vide notification no. 896/XXIV-C-2/2021-14(06)2020 dated 14 October 2021, as a result of persistent demands from the residents of the interior regions of Nanakmatta of the District Udham Singh Nagar for a college in the proximity. Nanakmatta is a historical town named after the Sikh pilgrimage site, Gurudwara Nanakmatta Sahib, located in the district Udham Singh Nagar in the state of Uttarakhand. The College is located approximately 700 meters far from the pilgrimage site and about 250 meters from Nanakmatta Roadways Bus Stand.
It has been named after a renowned freedom fighter, Maharana Pratap, the 13th Rana of Mewar, vide notification no. 57452/XXIV-C-2/2022-06(घो.)2022 dated 23 August, 2022.
The college is running in TRH Camp Karyalay Nanakmatta ( government-owned) at the present. The land transfer process is under progress for the college building.
